The concert launches the 6th annual Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival July 17-20 at Capilano University with a star faculty providing concerts, masterclasses and workshops for guitarists and music lovers.

After a season of rehearsals under the direction of Michael Kolk, our wonderful VCGS Guitar Ensemble is ready to perform for you in a program of classics by Bach, Satie, and Milan plus modern works by Aphex Twin, Thierry Tisserand and Akis Filios. You’ll hear Gymnopedie, Spanish Garden, Couleur Tango and Eight Little Corinthians in a Tub (!!). Plus, ensemble members will be presenting solos, duos, trios and a quartet to round out an afternoon of guitar exuberance.

The festival offers students a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable performance experience, build confidence, and find inspiration for their musical journey.
Montreal-based Charles Hobson and Marie-Noelle Choquette are the innovative guitar and flute duo, Beija-Flor. Together, they present a dynamic and beautiful repertoire of classical works inspired by cultures from around the world. “…an incredibly dynamic and creative team“, “masterful arrangements.” (Flute Quarterly, USA).
Boccherini’s Fandango Guitar Quintet (feat.. Alec Pearson on guitar) opens this varied program of chamber music. Performed by distinguished VAM faculty on four dates across the Lower Mainland.

Finishing off the evening will be guest performers from UBC’s undergrad program; Noah Ferrera-Palchinski, Gabriela Pimental and Selina Zhou.
Guitarlab Intensives, founded by Bokyung Byun and Dr. Jaxon Williams, offer two immersive online programs for classical guitarists of all levels - The Summer Virtuoso Intensives and The 4 x 4 Intensives.

His prodigious achievements are best exemplified by more than 100 awards worldwide in international classical guitar competitions, an astonishing 55 of them being first prizes in prestigious competitions. The Rogue Folk Club presents Christine Tassan et les Imposteures, a celebrated gypsy jazz and swing band.
Founded in 2003 by classically trained guitarist Christine Tassan, inspired by Django Reinhardt, the band has performed over 600 shows across Quebec, Canada, Europe, the U.S., and China, becoming a standout in the gypsy jazz scene.
