Vancouver’s Finest: Denys Panchenko & Vinny Linhares - Double Bill
We shine the spotlight on two of Vancouver’s finest classical guitarists right here in own vibrant guitar community. Brazilian-born Vinny Linhares brings charismatic stage presence and a vibrant blend of classical and Brazilian influences, while Ukrainian guitarist Denys Panchenko is acclaimed for his expressive playing, deep insight, and compelling compositions. Together, they offer an engaging double bill showcasing the exceptional talent thriving here in Vancouver.
Denys Panchenko
Denys Panchenko is a distinguished Ukrainian guitarist, composer, and educator recognized for his expressive performances and influential teaching career. A graduate of the Kharkiv National University of Arts, he has spent more than twenty years teaching at the Kharkiv Professional Music College, where many of his students have gone on to become laureates of national and international competitions.
As a performer, Panchenko has appeared in solo recitals throughout Ukraine and as a soloist with symphony, chamber, and folk orchestras. His repertoire ranges from classical masterworks to his own contemporary compositions, noted for their modern, lyrical style. Since moving to White Rock, BC three years ago, Denys has established himself as an in demand soloist.
Panchenko is also regarded as one of Ukraine’s leading contemporary guitar composers. His award-winning works are regularly performed at festivals and competitions internationally, earning praise for their originality and emotional depth.
Vinny Linhares
Brazilian guitarist Vinny Linhares is known for his vibrant performances of Brazilian guitar repertoire and his passionate commitment to music education. Born in Goiânia, Brazil, and based in Vancouver since 2015, he holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in classical guitar from the Federal University of Goiás and is currently pursuing further studies at the University of British Columbia.
A prizewinner from an early age, Vinny earned First Prize at the 1st National Guitar Competition at EMAC in Brazil and has performed extensively as both a soloist and educator. Since 2003, he has taught classical guitar with a focus on helping students achieve excellence in performance, competitions, festivals, and university music programs. His teaching also follows the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum.
Vinny’s artistry combines technical precision with the rhythmic richness and warmth of Brazilian musical traditions.
