“Vladimir is an exquisite master of classical guitar…” Facebook
The winner of multiple major international competitions including the Guitar Foundation of America, Russian-born guitarist Vladimir Gorbach, now based in Australia, is hailed as an exquisite master of the classical guitar. He has been called ‘nothing short of a magician’ for his refined musicianship, elegant tone, and mesmerizing technique. Vladimir performed on the VCGS stage in 2013 and we’re thrilled to welcome him back for our 20th anniversary season.
Internationally acclaimed guitarist Vladimir Gorbach has captivated audiences across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia with his virtuosity, musical depth, and dynamic stage presence. Born in Novosibirsk, Russia, he studied in Russia and Germany before completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Southern California under Grammy-winning guitarist William Kanengiser.
Winner of more than ten major international guitar competitions — including the prestigious 2011 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition — Gorbach has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Koblenz International Guitar Festival, Vienna Guitar Forum, and major festivals worldwide. His GFA Winners Tour included performances throughout the Americas and China.
Known for the elegance and precision of his playing, Gorbach’s repertoire spans from the Baroque era to contemporary music, combining technical brilliance with expressive warmth. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras including Orchestra de Las Beiras and Orchestra de Aveiro in Portugal, the Russian Academic Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva, the Symphony Orchestra of New Russia, and Junge Philharmonie Köln. In addition to his performing career, he has published solo guitar arrangements with Mel Bay and released a critically acclaimed recording on the Naxos label featuring works by Scarlatti, Piazzolla, Giuliani, and Asencio.
A highly respected educator, Gorbach currently serves as Associate Professor and head of guitar at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia. He is also a member of the New Zealand Guitar Quartet and is in demand internationally as a guest artist, adjudicator, and masterclass instructor. His performances are praised for their refinement, expressive intensity, and extraordinary tonal palette.
