Virgile Barthe is an ‘absolutely spectacular’ guitarist with 40 plus awards in international competitions. At just 23 years old, the French guitarist is the winner of the prestigious 2025 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition. French guitarist Virgile Barthe has quickly established himself as one of the leading classical guitarists of his generation. Winner of more than 40 international prizes — including the prestigious 2025 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition — Barthe is celebrated for his dazzling technique, expressive artistry, and innovative interpretations.
His many accolades include top prizes at the Paris, Guitar Masters, Forum Gitarre Wien, Iserlohn, and Julián Arcas competitions, along with three Golden Guitar Awards in Italy and a special artistic medal from the Senate of the Italian Republic. Barthe has performed at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, earning acclaim for performances that combine technical brilliance with emotional depth.
Equally at home in the traditional and contemporary repertoire, Barthe is known for his imaginative programming and commitment to expanding the possibilities of the guitar. His repertoire ranges from Bach and the great Spanish masters to newly commissioned works and bold contemporary interpretations. Critics and audiences alike have praised the intensity, colour, and sophistication of his performances.
