VCGS Guitar Ensemble Spring Concert
Join us for an afternoon with the VCGS Guitar Ensemble on Sunday, December 14th at 3:00 pm.
This year’s program spans an exciting range of styles, from Baroque and classical works to contemporary ensemble pieces and festive holiday favourites.
A special highlight is the Pacific Spirit Suite, a new multi-movement work commissioned especially for our society by Alec Pearson.
Alongside the full-ensemble selections, members will also perform in solo, duo, trio, and quartet settings, offering a warm and varied musical experience to close out the season.

Michael Kolk, Ensemble Director
Michael Kolk is a highly accomplished Canadian classical guitarist, known for his performances across North America and Europe as a soloist and member of the HK Guitar Duo with Drew Henderson. The duo toured Saskatchewan and the Yukon in 2017/18, followed by a concert tour with violinist Laurence Kayaleh in 2018. Kolk has performed with major orchestras, including the Toronto Philharmonia and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and worked with opera companies like the Canadian Opera Company.
As a recording artist, Kolk has released nine albums across various labels, including solo works, duo collaborations, and recordings of underrepresented and contemporary compositions. He has also earned numerous top prizes in guitar competitions. Kolk holds an ARCT diploma and a Master's in guitar performance from the University of Toronto. Since relocating to Vancouver in 2022, he teaches at Vancouver Community College and from his home studio.
