Due to the incredible success of the first version of the Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival, which gathered over 30 participants from all over Metro Vancouver and beyond, we are excited to announce the Second Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival, VCGFest 2021, this July!
Due to unpredictability and health concerns over COVID-19, the VCGFest will keep its format to a week-long series of online guitar MASTERCLASSES, WORKSHOPS and CONCERTS! During these workshops, you will be able to explore intensively skills with high level and world-leading experts. From the beginner who just learned how to read notes, to the aspiring professional who is diving deeper into music, this week is designed to get everyone together to share a unifying experience of playing the guitar
This year’s faculty includes Benjamin Verdery, guitar professor at Yale University, who will give a concert, masterclasses and a workshop on Arranging for the guitar; Dr. Daniel Bolshoy, guitar professor at the University of Georgia in Athens, who will also be giving a solo concert, masterclasses and teaching a course on tone on the guitar; Alec Pearson, UBC guitar professor, talking about Fretboard harmony; Dr. Brent Crawford, recent graduate of the DMA program at the University of Toronto sharing with us the results of his research on Training for Excellence in Performance; Lucida Zhao, our pianist in residence helping with musicianship workshops; and Luis Angel Medina, who will be sharing his tips on how to learn music effectively.
