Friends, neighbours & musical innovators: Celso Machado and Josh Searles in a rare double bill November 22nd.

Brazilian rhythms, South American charm, Spanish flair and so much more await you as the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society presents a rare double bill: Celso Machado and Josh Searles, two extraordinary guitarists who also happen to be friends and neighbours on BC’s Sunshine Coast. Join us Saturday, November 22nd at 7 pm at Pacific Spirit United Church (a new venue for us!) for an unforgettable evening of solos and duets as we welcome back the legendary Celso Machado and introduce Josh Searles.

A true legend in BC’s music scene, Celso Machado has long been beloved for his joyful energy and breathtaking artistry as a guitarist, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Born in Brazil and now based in Gibsons, BC, Machado has captivated audiences worldwide with music that bridges cultures. His compositions and performances draw on the richness of Brazilian traditions—samba, bossa nova, maracatu, and choro—infused with African, Middle Eastern, European, and Asian influences. For decades, Celso has been celebrated here at home as one of the most inspiring and innovative voices in world music.

Sharing the stage is his Sunshine Coast neighbour and collaborator, Josh J. Searles. An acclaimed classical guitarist, composer, and DJ, Searles brings fearless creativity and cross-genre brilliance. He has studied with some of the world’s finest guitarists, including Grammy-winner David Russell, and has performed internationally across Canada, the US, the UK, and Spain. His versatility spans from refined classical guitar recitals to cutting-edge electronic music performances at festivals like Shambhala and Mutek. Together with Celso, Josh loves exploring exciting new territory where tradition meets innovation.

Join us on Saturday, November 22nd at Pacific Spirit United Church, 2195 W 45th Ave, Vancouver, BC V6M 2J4.  The evening begins with a pre-concert performance by student guitarists from the UBC School of Music at 6:15 pm, followed by the double bill at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $15-45 and VCGS members always save 15%.   More information and tickets at www.vancouverguitar.org   Email publicity@vancouverguitar.org
