The phenomenal Vladimir Gorbach returns to VCGS for our 20th anniversary season
Some musicians leave a lasting impression.
“Always stunning in his depth of emotion.
Nothing short of a magician.
Words to describe his delicious craft range from ‘genius’ to ‘dream weaver’ to ‘heroic.’ Gorbach is a true master craftsman of the classical guitar. “
And those are just some of the reviews. When Vladimir Gorbach performed for the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society in 2013, he had just won the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America competition. Now, we’re delighted that he’ll be joining us again 13 years later as part of our 20th anniversary season and he’s even more accomplished, virtuosic and quite simply astonishing.
An internationally acclaimed guitarist and winner of more than ten major international competitions, including the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, Vladimir is admired for the extraordinary refinement of his playing. As RNZ News put it, he is “nothing short of a magician,” bringing an astonishing breadth of music to life with elegance, precision, and expressive warmth.
Now based in Australia for more than a decade, where he serves as Associate Professor and head of guitar at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Vladimir has performed at Carnegie Hall and major concert venues and festivals around the world. His artistry combines dazzling technique with the kind of musical depth that makes a performance linger in the memory.
For those who remember his 2013 VCGS appearance, this concert will be a welcome reunion. For those hearing him for the first time, it is an opportunity to discover an artist whose virtuosity serves the music at every turn. We’re very pleased to bring him back to Vancouver for this milestone season, and we hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a memorable evening.
Come early to enjoy a pre-concert performance by UBC classical guitar students.
