Experience the unstoppable classical guitarist and composer Dale Kavanagh, March 23rd

She’s been described as technically flawless, sonically brilliant, and a poet on the guitar.  The Vancouver Classic Guitar Society presents the unstoppable Canadian classical guitar virtuoso and composer Dale Kavanagh on Saturday, March 23rd at 7 pm at Pyatt Hall.  Her list of accomplishments is breathtaking: more than 1,000 recitals in over 40 countries, dozens of original compositions, 20 plus recordings, and hundreds of masterclasses.  Dale Kavanagh is truly a classical guitar legend.   “Classical guitar is my life,” she explains.  “I fell in love with its sound world of incredible beauty.”

Since capturing Europe’s top guitar competitions in the late 1980’s, Dale has become one of the classical guitar world’s finest and most prolific musicians and composers.  Dividing her time between Canada and Germany, she performs non-stop internationally as a soloist, with orchestras, ensembles and as half of the renowned Amadeus Guitar Duo.

Dale is very engaged with composing and her work is in demand worldwide.  She has recently composed for Aniello Desiderio, Emma Rush, ChromaDuo, and many more.  And she has just put the finishing touches on her 21st recording of original solo and ensemble compositions, Dale and Friends, soon to be released on Naxos.

Dale says her Vancouver program entitled ‘Contrasts’ is “very personal, about people and places I’ve known and loved.”  It showcases her masterful range from the renaissance works of Michael Praetorius, through the 19th century romantics Fernando Sor and Niccolo Paganini to the contemporary Roland Dyens and Carlo Domeniconi.   Plus, you’ll hear her own beautiful compositions, many inspired by where she grew up in Nova Scotia.

Born in Halifax, she studied at Acadia and Dalhousie universities.  After finishing her graduate studies in Switzerland, Dale decided to stay in Europe, finding it a welcoming place for a classical guitarist.  That’s where she met her husband and duo partner, Thomas Kirchhoff.  Now newly retired from her longtime position as Professor of Guitar at the Musikhochschule in Detmold, Germany, Dale and Thomas recently bought a house in Nova Scotia and plan to continue performing and composing in Canada, Germany and around the world.

The concert starts at 7 pm, Pyatt Hall, 843 Seymour Street, Vancouver. with a pre-concert performance of up-and-coming student guitarists at 6:15 pm.  Tickets are $42 General Admission, $35 Senior/Student, $15 Youth.   Watch from anywhere with our livestream at $20.   Members enjoy a 15% discount on all tickets.  Get tickets at www.vancouverguitar.org  Dale will be teaching masterclasses at the UBC School of Music on Friday, March 23rd.  Email outreach@vancouverguitar.org if you’d like to participate.
