Over the past 20 years, the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society has brought more than 100 of the world’s most compelling classical guitarists to Vancouver audiences, creating unforgettable musical experiences while fostering our own vibrant guitar community. Our 2026–27 International Artist Series celebrates this milestone anniversary with a remarkable season that showcases the very best classical guitarists from around the world..
This anniversary season reflects the truly international spirit of the classical guitar, bringing together artists and influences from Japan, Canada, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Ukraine, France, Peru, and beyond. From iconic masters to emerging stars, each concert offers audiences an opportunity to experience the extraordinary expressive range of the classical guitar in intimate and inspiring venues across Vancouver.
Kanahi Yamashita

Described as a “master of the new generation”, Japanese classical guitarist Kanahi Yamashita is celebrated for her controlled technique, fearless musical imagination, and groundbreaking transcriptions. Kanahi performed since childhood with her celebrated father Kazuhito Yamashita and made her solo debut at age 13. The award-winning Kanahi promises a concert of rare brilliance, intensity, and unforgettable artistry.

The winner of multiple major international competitions including the Guitar Foundation of America, Russian-born guitarist Vladimir Gorbach, now based in Australia, is hailed as an exquisite master of the classical guitar. He has been called ‘nothing short of a magician’ for his refined musicianship, elegant tone, and mesmerizing technique. Vladimir performed on the VCGS stage in 2013 and we’re thrilled to welcome him back for our 20th anniversary season.

Widely regarded as one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing today, Peruvian-Canadian guitarist Jorge Caballero is renowned for expanding the possibilities of the instrument with his phenomenal technique. Described as “breathtaking to watch” and “a masterly guitarist”, his performances combine astonishing precision with immense emotional power, particularly in his celebrated transcriptions of monumental piano and orchestral works.

Brazilian-born Vinny Linhares brings charismatic stage presence and a vibrant blend of classical and Brazilian influences, while Ukrainian guitarist Denys Panchenko is acclaimed for his expressive playing, deep insight, and compelling compositions. Together, they offer an engaging double bill showcasing the exceptional talent thriving here in Vancouver.

We’ve been presenting the winner of the Guitar Foundation of America’s International Concert Artist Competition every year for 20 years, and it is always a highlight of our season. This year’s tour winner is Virgile Barthe, an ‘absolutely spectacular’ guitarist with 40 plus awards in international competitions. At just 23 years old, the French guitarist is the winner of the prestigious 2025 GFA competition. Experience fresh energy, exceptional virtuosity, and the artistry of a young star rocketing to the top of the classical guitar world.
