Liel Amdour

A passionate ambassador of the classical guitar, Liel Amdour is dedicated to sharing the music of the guitar with the audiences everywhere. The 2018 recipient of the Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award and a two-time recipient of the British Columbia Arts Council Scholarship Award for Promising Young Artists (2013 and 2014), Ms. Amdour regularly performs as a soloist in diverse settings and receives frequent praise for her expressive performances and charismatic presence.

Devoted to the journey of refining her art and excited by the thrill of new challenges, Ms. Amdour recently graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, and was the only undergraduate student of her class to perform Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez at her graduation recital. She has participated and won awards in numerous local and international guitar festivals and competitions, including the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, the Canadian Music Competition and the Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition. Ms. Amdour has also performed in masterclasses and taken lesson with many of the world’s most acclaimed classical guitarists, including Roland Dynes, Sergio Assad, Denis Azabagic, Irina Kulikova, Grisha Goryachev, March Teicholz, Jonathan Leathwood, among many others. 

An ambitious personality with ardent creative energy, Ms. Amdour is dedicated to presenting her music to audiences previously unfamiliar with the classical guitar by performing in both traditional and unconventional venues. Past local engagements include performances for the Vancouver Classical Guitar Society, Vancouver Kiwanis Music Society, Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Odessa Society, Vancouver Russian Music Festival, Vancouver Asian Film Festival, IGNITE! Youth Festival, as well as frequent appearances at corporate, non-profit, community and gala events. During her university studies, Ms. Amdour has performed in numerous health-care facilities and senior-homes as a UBC Music Ambassador for the Health Arts Society, and still continues to empower audiences with the healing powers of music.

Born in Israel, Ms. Amdour fell in love with the guitar at the age of 11. She began her studies with Anna Saharov and Ivan Dimitrov, and later with Dr. Daniel Bolshoy at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music and the University of British Columbia. A determined advocate for classical music, Ms. Amdour directs concerts series featuring young artists in Vancouver in an endeavour to secure the future of classical music.More past awards include the Tom Lee Music Excellence Award (2012), the Mildren Johnson Music Scholarship (2013), and the Vancouver Kiwanis Society Most Promising Artist Award (2014).

In dedication for the support of her community, Liel is excited to endorse the Vancouver Classical Guitar Society in a split-fundraising concert.
