VCGS Presents: Alan & Brayden Liu

Two brothers. Two unique talents. Together  in concert for the first time.  Alan Liu is 20 years old. His brother Brayden Liu is just 17. Between them, the Vancouver brothers have already earned dozens of international prizes for their astonishing musical talent, Alan on classical guitar and Brayden on piano

Alan just took home 4th prize in the prestigious 2021 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist competition. He won his first competition when he was just 8 and has gone on to win major guitar competitions across North America, Asia and Europe. Alan is also the first featured classical guitarist in CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30” program.

Brayden debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York at 11 years old. He has competed at piano competitions and festivals in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Already, he has been awarded more than 30 international prizes and awards, 17 of which are first prizes.

Both Alan and Brayden have studied at the VSO School of Music here in Vancouver. Alan is currently studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he will graduate with a bachelor’s degree next spring. Brayden studies with the Fedorova & Takser Piano Studio under the guidance of Ilya Takser   He will celebrate his high school graduation in 2022.

Here’s a taste of what they will present at the concert: Brayden will play Beethoven’s Sonata No.21“Waldstein" and Chopin’s Berceuse in D-flat major.  Alan will perform Bach’s Lute Suite BWV 995 for Guitar and Napoléon Coste’s Fantaisie Dramatique ‘Le Depart’.
