19th Northwest Guitar Festival and Competition

Northwest Guitar Festival Competition 2009

The Competition is open to players 18 and over from British Columbia, Alberta, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Montana and is a major showcase of the finest young players in the region. Previous 1st prize winners are not eligible.

First Prize $1000
Second Prize $500
Third Prize $300
Fourth Prize $200
All prizes are in Canadian Dollars

Competition entrants must prepare a 20-25 minute program of varied repertoire
of at least RCM Grade 8 standard and send a CD of their playing from that program,
5-10 minutes long, to the address below by February 1, 2009.

Semi-finalists will be chosen from competition entrants and notified by
March 1, 2009. They will perform in the afternoon of the first day of the Festival.

Four finalists will be selected by a panel of judges to perform their complete program on the final day. All decisions made by the judges are final and without appeal. Prizes may be vacated at the judges’ discretion. Winners will be announced at the Saturday evening concert.
Competitors chosen to perform at the Festival must register for the full Festival at the competitor’s rate of $100 CDN.



Please include:
-A written Final program (20-25 min. dur.)
-A CD of music from that program (CD, mp3 or Wav format) (5-10 min. dur.)
-A brief biography including birth date
-A cheque or money order for $35 CDN payable to Northwest Guitar Festival competition

A fantastic 3 day event held this year in South Eastern BC in the idyllic mountain community of Nelson. The Festival features concerts, classes and an internationally recognized guitar competition.

Paul Grove (Gonzaga Univ.-Spokane) Sharon Carne (Mt. Royal College-Calgary)

With lectures on Early Music, Sound healing with the guitar,
Brazilian musical style and a Youth Showcase.

Passes for all Festival events are available at the following rates:
$140 CDN Early Bird rate (before Feb. 15, 2009)
$175 CDN (after Feb.15, 2009)
Individual tickets for events and day passes will be available at the door
